Welcome to Desperate Dans, a charming café nestled in the heart of Ballymena on Ballymoney Street, where the aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingles with the enticing scents of hearty fare. This gem of a café has been a beloved spot among locals and visitors alike, and it’s easy to see why.

Desperate Dans specializes in traditional Northern Irish cuisine, with a particular focus on the quintessential Ulster fry—a must-try during your visit. For just £6.95, you can indulge in a first-class fry that leaves you both satisfied and energized. The café's warm and inviting atmosphere makes it the perfect place to unwind, whether you're catching up with friends or enjoying a quiet moment alone. The staff here are more than just employees; they embody friendliness, always ready to accommodate your needs with a smile. As one customer, Mark Bradley, expressed, a visit here is not just about the food but the delightful company of the staff that sets the tone for your day.

On the menu, you'll find an array of well-loved sides including chunky chips, skinny fries, and garlic chips, all ready to complement your main dish. For those looking to elevate their fries experience, consider the loaded options—each priced at £8.50—like the indulgent Brisket Fries and the spicy Salt & Chilli Fries. These offerings not only satisfy your cravings but turn an ordinary meal into something memorable.

But it’s not just about the food at Desperate Dans; it’s about the community. With nearly three decades of patrons like Ryan Watson returning for the consistently lovingly prepared dishes, the café has truly won the hearts of many. Customers have praised everything from the delightful flavors to the comforting environment, making it the go-to spot for those seeking a genuine taste of Ballymena.

Warm up with one of their hot drinks, such as a rich hot chocolate (£2.80) or a classic cappuccino (£2.80) that offers the perfect balance of espresso and steamed milk. With each sip, you will feel a sense of comfort, as if you're being wrapped in a warm blanket on a chilly day.

In a world filled with fast-paced dining, Desperate Dans stands out as a delightful retreat where quality meets affordability. Whether you’re a lifelong local or a curious traveler, make sure to stop by and experience the charm of Desperate Dans—a café that feels like home.

A lovely wee cafe I hadn't tried before on previous visits home. This morning I enjoyed a first class fry for only 6.95. The owner Mark was very accommodating and happy to swap out egg, which I don't eat, for an excellent black pudding. Warm service. Highly recommended.

Whenever l go up to Ballymena to meet long-time friends, l will get the bills paid and a bit of shopping, that done l will call at Desperate Dans have a fruit scone, milky coffee and catch up on whatever. I can remember this cafe opening a long long time ago. I had been in Sales & Marketing (Oil Companies) approx 30 plus years. I retired at 60 and l am now 76 years, that said, It's good to see Desperate Dans cafe still going strong, maybe l will see him next time. DB.
